Brief Posting Description
Lead project estimation center of excellence for the business unit. This position involves defining best practices & processes in project estimation, institutionalizing the practices, coaching estimators from various work functions, reviewing the estimates, improving the practices based on the objective results.

Detailed Description
As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

Job Requirements
Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements. Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. Preferred Qualifications: BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. A of one year of software engineering or related experience.

Required skills:

BE/ME/B.Tech/M.Tech/MCA/MBA or equivalent from a reputed institute or university
Should have minimum of 10-15 years experience in project estimation for product development and SaaS based solutions
Should have experience of leading/mentoring a team for more than 5 years
Should have good people management skills
Should have experience in estimating, planning and tracking software projects ranging from medium to large size
Should have strong knowledge and experience in various estimation techniques such as function point analysis, use case point analysis, proxy based estimation etc
Should possess knowledge of mathematical models underlying the parametric estimation models
Should have experience with usage of commercial estimation tools such as SLIM, KnowledgePlan, SEER, TruePlanning, COCOMO.
Should have experience in estimating for different development lifecycles and at different points in the lifecycle
Should have strong business communication and presentation skills
Prefer to have experience estimating consulting projects
Knowledge or experience of working with CMMI, TSP or Six Sigma would be an added advantage
Experience in healthcare and life sciences industry is an added advantage
Experience in estimating products developed with technologies J2EE, Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, OBIEE, Informatica, PLSQL, C++ is an added advantage

Job description:
Analyze existing problems and opportunities to improve in the area of estimation, metrics and project management by aligning to the organizational objectives
Systematically analyze and propose solution
Review the proposal with the sr. management
Define the operational plan to implement the proposal
Conduct training for the estimators and for other consumers of the process
Assess capabilities of the participants to make sure they understood and can put the learning into practice
Provide coaching to the estimators on the best practices, techniques, tool to various functions of product development i.e. product strategy, product management, development, quality control, documentation etc.
Validate the inputs, approach used to estimate and the estimates created by the estimators
Establish mechanism to make sure the quality of the actual data measured and recorded by engineers is of good quality
Perform checkpoints to check the implementation of the practices and processes
Provide requirements for the custom tool required w.r.t estimation such data collection tools
Review results periodically to measure the success of the initiatives as the performance of this job role would be completely appraised through the results
